Spring clean and store!
That time of year has finally arrived. OK the weather is still pretty unpredictable – rain, high winds and a spattering of snow still book-ends those wonderful balmy sunny days, but if you are in the UK, as we all know, you take what your given as a sign of spring-time. And those sunny days are happening more often – and when they do, it is definitely warmer.
Spring has sprung and we can’t wait doing the things attributable to this exciting time of year. This is the time for beach fun, walks and cycle rides in the countryside, thrills at the fairground, re-designing the garden and long Sunday afternoons spent idling over a cold pint of lager.
But Hold on.
There are other, not so cool stuff, that spring brings with it.
Yes, this is the time for spring cleaning. If you are house-proud in any way it will be these first hot months of the year that gets you asking yourself how are you going to clean what you have, get rid of what you don’t need and re-organise, buy new trendy stuff to give your home an uplift and reset it all so it still fits into the same ever-diminishing space.
As much as chucking out the old tired stuff can be tiresome, it can also be very rewarding – though it doesn’t beat the experience of re-designing your home space with something new and fabulous. However, it is often the throwing out task where we fall-down. When we first do an inventory of our homes we are clear about what we want to get rid of. When we actually come to action it – something seems to get in the way to stop us zipping through the list with ease.
So what’s this all about? How come we cannot go through with clearing the decks?
Well, there are a number of possible reasons:
1. Although tired and worn some of our possessions have a nostalgic value. We just can’t let it go.
2. Gifts received need to be kept as courtesy to the giver. It feels wrong to let it go.
3. Some possessions may be seasonal and therefore only used at certain times of the year. We will only end up buying the same stuff again later in the year.
4. Some documents need to be kept within an archive. The tax man cometh.
5. Guides and instruction manuals need to be kept where they can be accessed easily. Murphy’s law you will need them.
6. Some furniture seems so much part of your everyday environment, it’s still difficult to get rid of it even though you have grown to hate it. Our surroundings become our identities.
So what is the answer? How can you move on and still hold onto those nik-naks its just wrong, or too difficult to let go of?
Self-storage is the solution. It gives you that extra bit of space so you can hold onto those beloved – but tired treasures, those important aged documents and offers easy access to all that stuff you only need every now and again. With self-storage you really can re-fresh you living-space without having to be ruthless with the valuables you need to keep by your side. A good self-storage company will offer 24/7 accessibility; a quote to meet you exact spatial needs, on-site removals support and great prices.
